Festival crime wave?

There seems to have been a huge surge is reported crimes at festivals this year. There does seem to be a certain similarity to many of them, including people getting ripped of when they were asleep. It may be a co-incidence or it may not, but I really think people should at least be made aware of what might be going on. Especialy as Glade has a bit of a reputation for this already.

Glastonbury seems to have been really hard hit in places. There is a fair bit on the efest glasto bit about this.

The point I am trying to make is be vigilant and if you can spread the word to other Glade types (or general festival types) to step up there personal security this year.

to people who've been before - would you say camping in the more central area rather than at the edges is safer with regards to thefts?

Twist - I think a couple of years ago there were more thefts near ID Spiral than elsewhere, something to do with an organised 'gang' of people targeting that area I believe. Probably just a one off though. I don't know what the official figures were for last year though, although I daresay the weather played a part again - you only have to look at the massive increase in crime at Glastonbury, where they had relatively good weather all weekend...

It's a sad fact that you could be robbed anywhere Sad

so don't forget people, there is a lock up - use it!!

If you can avoid taking anything valuable to the festival then don't. Keep all your monies and valuable things on you or in the lock-ups at all times, scatter all your things around your tent and make it look like a bomb has hit the place. If you leave everything in a bag then the thief can just take the whole thing quickly.

Don't get paranoid about it! If we start to get over-worried then the bastard thieves have got us twice, ripped us off and made the rest of us scared.

If you do get robbed don't worry too much about it, I'm sure your friends can sort you out for the rest of the festival!

Let's face it, if we didn't leave anything valuable in our tents then the thieves wouldn't bother trying to rob us in the first place.

Hi guys, just to let you know, Mudrise got hit pretty badly too this year. I had five visitors on the Friday night and was too wasted to deal with them apart from shining a torch in their face, which thankfully made them bugger off but the fact that they came back and kept comming back shows how determined they were or maybe there were five different lots. Thought I might bring an alarm to attach to my tent zip for Glade.

I found this one out the hard way - all my stuff got nicked at glastonbury because it was all in my rucksack. My other half had emptied his and scattered everything round, and nothing of his got touched (except his sleeping bag Mad

I can only agree with the nice Dr. A mess of a tent is just to hard to steal from. Even harder if there is nothing of value in there. Like i read on the glade website ' you will not need an Ipod '. This made me think so i got a crapie camera from a bootsale, aswell as a cheap nasty phone. I always make regular trips back to my tent to see if anyone has felt sorry for me and actually given me some of their swag.

After working reading rock not so long ago, there were two youths looking sus in the campsite so i followed them, trying to not let that be shown. They eventually went back to a camper van which was infact loaded up with Swag. Just a thought but how about random searches when people are leaving, as if anyone is like me, they wont be taking anything illegal home with them. And it may reunite some goers with thier losses.

Decoy trousers is what you need! Some £$%& stole my trousers last year. Luckily I took everything out of the pockets before I took them off, fooook knows how I remembered to do that though I was so wasted that night it's a miracle I managed to take the trousers off! So reckon im gunna take a few old pairs o trousers with me this year!

Had my bag nicked at Glasto from my tent whilst I was in there asleep! Bag was handed in, minus wallet and my enitre funds for the weekend. Luckily I had enough people around me that it didn't spoil the festival, but in future the valubles are sleeping in the sleeping bag with me!!

Aye the messy tent thing is a good idea - whenever I hear about thefts, it seems 99% of the time it's someone just lifting a full rucksack out of a tent. I'll spread some smelly socks about!

and I'll definitely use the lockups and put my purse, cards in there etc and just carry what cash I need.

i always put my bag with my phone, money etc in it at the bottom of my sleeping bag whilst i'm in it. If you have small children with you leave their buggy up just inside the door if the tent is big enough - one year at glastonbury i was woken by people trying to get in but being tripped up by the pushchair!!

I have to say that i was shocked at the number of thefts i heard about at sunrise this year, even in such a small space of time

I've been going to festies for years now and have been lucky enough never to be robbed, but I couldn't agree more with what people have posted:

1. Don't briung anything to the sitre that you don't REALLY need
2. Always carry anything you don't want to lose with you at all times
3. When you're going to sleep, empty your pockets and stash your valuables in your sleeping bag/under your mattress/wherever but definitely NOT where anyone can access after knifing the tent

Let's face it, if you have more to lose than cash and supplies then you need to ask yourself why you have brought them...

think aboot it.....you'd have no-one to blame but yerself if you left ya valuables in ya unlocked car and it got robbed..ditto the tent....remember UK stands for UNBELIEVABLE KRIMEWAVE

I shall have a very large man called Feefkilla in my tent at all times.

If he can't make it, then i shall either carry my valuables or put them in the lock up!!

It is a shame that you can't trust people in a place like Glade to just be there to enjoy themselves....ho hum.

That is just not true! Most of the robberies are by organised criminals who buy tickets.

Also I saw some security guards stealing things from people, they call it "confirscation" but basically it's stealing as far as I'm consirned.

Anyway, enough with the bad vibes, I'm gonna have a wicked time even if:

a) The security are overzelious meat heads like in 2006.
b) I get robbed.
c) I get gripped on CCTV smoking a spliff and get thrown out and have to break back in again.

Fom where did you get this info Don? I think the wreather put off most of the cunts last year, but I've never heard of organised gangs before. And why the fuck would organised criminals bother to pay for tickets?!
