Is it me or is this less than last year?????
Alcohol Policy
At Glade we have a number of well stocked bars serving fine wines, to ale, to cocktails to spirits and a good cold pint of lager.
If you do want to bring your own alcohol you can up to 10pm Thursday. After this time you will have to buy alcohol from the bars as we are a fully licenced event.
This is what you are allowed to bring with you:
PER PERSON
12 X CANS OF BEER
OR 2 X BOTTLES OF WINE
OR 6 X CANS OF BEER AND 1 X BOTTLE OF WINE
NO SPIRITS
NO GLASS WHATSOEVER SO BRING WINE IN BOXES OR PLASTIC BOTTLES!

I'm confused - I thought you could only take alcohol in until 6pm?
ah, I see, just checked the site - they must have changed it, because I definitely remember it being 6pm.
and yeah, it's quite low - just 12 cans?
edit - NO SPIRITS?! The miserable sods.

We can only hope security change shifts or something between the gates opening and 10pm. You reckon a box of wine counts as a bottle??

haha, more like 3 or 4
but it is quite confusing - it says bring wine in boxes or plastic bottles, but then it says the limit is 2 bottles of wine - but a box has more than 2 bottles in.
tbh it'll probably be OK, as long as you're not trying to smuggle 3 crates of beer in I can't see them making a big fuss. I hope.

haha, you read my mind! Was gonna bring some but I'm going on the train and I already have far too much to carry.
nos is still legal to possess, but not to sell, no idea what the limit for possession would be though - 20? 50?
200 might be pushing it.

apparently it's something the council wanted, to 'discourage binge drinking'.

yeah, i just read that on GT....well i don't buy it, and if it is true it's a ridiculous reason...drinking 12 cans of beer isn't considered binge drinking?
tbh, once i'm there i won't care too much either way, but it just annoys me that this new rule gets brought in when it's been ok since 2004.

I don't buy it either. it seems very sudden, and only 2 weeks before the festival? Surely this would have been discussed at all the council meetings etc, why would they suddenly decide this so close to the festival?
also not everyone uses the internet a lot like us geeks - I imagine there'll be people who assume it's the same rules as previous years and will turn up and get their stuff confiscated. I wouldn't have seen the new alcohol policy bit of the glade site if ady101 hadn't made this thread.

Apparently:
Quote: › Binge drinking is classed as consuming more than 10 units of alcohol in a single session for men and seven units for women |
so what is there in a can? About 2.5 units? Four cans and you're a binge drinker
Bit pissed off about the no spirits thing tbh. I like a nip of brandy from my hip flask when it's cold at night

I'm trying to think of ways to stash vodka, obviously water bottles can be checked.
Gah! I really hope that the reason for the restrictions is purely an external licenseing requirement and not an attempt by the organisers to make more money by ripping people off at the bars.
Maybe someone official could comment?

I emailed the Glade organisers:
Quote: › Please justify your outrageously strict alcohol policy this year. Please
tell me it's due to an uncontrollable licensing restriction and not an
attempt by you to force people to spend lots of money at the official bars! |
They responded with:
Quote: ›
This is the way it's always been...
Also if people do spend money on the bars it all goes back into putting on
the festival..
|
So, apparently the rules are the same as before and I've always got away with bringing 6 litres of vodka decanted into 3 litre water bottles.
I guess you have to take a chance, if you get busted then tough.

Yeh, one box of wine between two would be acceptable according to "the rules".
