Well, for our first adventure to Tribe of Frog, it was well worth the 90 minute drive to Bristol.
When we arrived not long after midnight (aiming for 10.30, but anyway), Magic Karma, Tony Malone, Madam Butterfly and her friends were waiting for us in the queue. 3mins later we were inside!
Not long inside the door, Dr. Don's smiling face (along with the rest of him ) came wandering in from the main room.
After the usual 'happy hugging session,' the first thing Dr. Don does is put his arm around Magic Karma, (who, for those of you that don't know, is sporting a cracked rib), and pokes him in the ribs while asking: "How's your ribs mate?"
MK's face said it all, even though his response was incredibly polite.
Walking into the main room, the decor was absolutely amazing, I can only imagine how much time and effort the Tribe of Frog crew must put in to organising one of their nights.
There were wierd and wonderful creatures adourning the walls in every direction - and that was just the UV-tastic artwork!
(I don't think I've seen so many UV lights under one roof!)
The tireless stage dancers with their colourful costumes added to the UV-speclacular, in front of an always-packed dance floor.
I also liked the idea of having the DJ names / set times clearly displayed in each room. - Unfortunately, that hasn't helped me much today.
Although I didn't indulge myself, the UV face and body painting seemed extremely popular, and added even more colour and amusement to the night.
It was certainly a good, friendly, 'fluffy' crowd, and it was great bumping into (sometimes literally!) the occasional Festival Weather member while wandering around aimlessly, soaking up the vibe.
(Did I mention how good the decor was?)
Crazy Diamond and I met some great new people, but unfortunately, no matter how long the night is, there just never seems to be enough time to chat with everyone!
We had the opportunity to catch up with Mangakitten and Elliot in the downstairs bar, which was way quieter than the main rooms. Spiralx was of course floating around, along with a few of the peeps we met at Planet Angel the other week. (Sorry, names escape me )
Chilled out with Zeeboo and his colourful balls for a while, and was disappointed to hear that Brassybel had already left before we had the chance to catch up.
Admittedly, we're not a full-on psy trance fans, so we probably spent most of our time in the chill-out / breaks room. (Which was also a lot cooler!)
I did enjoy Dick Trevor's (at least that's what the name said on the decks?) set.
At another stage I was having a , and asked someone who was playing. "That's OTT, you should take notice of him." came the response - wise words indeed.
Unfortunately, I didn't really see much of Tony and Madam Butterfly throughout the night, they were too busy busting their moves on the dance floor.
Although Tony did stop still long enough for me to paint his fingernails fluro-red, which added some colour to his amazing dance girations.
I was delighted to meet Corky for the first time, who was there flyering for Toadstool's next event featuring The Commercial Hippies, who are only playing 3 gigs on their UK album launch.
Jason and the Frogz crew certainly go 'all out' to put on a good night, with amazing decor in each room, and equally skilled DJs to match.
The extra fans / aircon in the various rooms is appreciated, however, a couple more wouldn't have gone astray. Restricting the party numbers to 900, (1200 normal capacity), is certainly a good move, making it far easier to 'bumble around' without the place being too cramped.
An excellent party night indeed! I for one can't wait to see what the Tribe of Frog crew have in store for us at the Glade and other festivals throughout the summer.
[Mood: Cool ][Currently: Working ] That's right, we're offering you the chance to win TWO free Glade Festival 2006 tickets right here on Festival Weather.
