hi

hopefully people here can help me make up my mind. I want to go to either Sunrise or Beautiful days this year, it would be my first Sunrise been to Beautiful days for the last 3 years.

Sunrise appeals, I like the ethics, the bands and the vibe sounds great, Happydance sweetheart juggle however having read some stuff on here it puts me off going a bit, like

Dreadzone played at 2am not good when you have kids with you which I do.
No bands during the day?
No roofs on the compost toilets?
and from the t& C's "Any parent of a minor suspected of consumption of alcohol is liable for eviction."
Shocked

i went to last years fest and loved it. I also go to BDays and LOVE that fest so its a tough one. I think Sunrise will be making a few changes this year so i wouldn't worry too much about what you have heard about the last one. As for the alcohol and kids thing, there def wasn't any enforcement of that kind or any other so i wouldn't sweat it. As for the no bands thing, there were lots of other things to do in the form of workshops etc, and the cafes had music as did the dance tent (i think) and the freedome (improv from the general public). I didn't find it a problem. The dreadzone issue wasn't ideal (tho i think it was 1am rather than 2), but it was the festies first year. I'm sure lessons will have been learned and things will be tighter this year.

Bdays will be 5 this year so i don't know if they will be arranging anything extra special...could be something to take into consideration.

They are both fab festies and if i wasn't away for Sunrise Mad i'd def be going. Maybe its time for a change? Saying that i have been to the last 3 Bdays and wouldn't miss it for the world....so i'm not much help at all! Laughing

Thanks for your answers and the welcome:D

I really wish I could afford to go to both, bloody rat race taking all my energy and money Computer Trash

I think the main thing would be the night time bands being on that late, it really would not suit kids that won't lie in. Hopefully they may announce the line up and times soon do you think? So I can make my choice from that!

Hi NicNak!

Welcome to FW!
wave

We all had an amazing time at Sunrise last year.

There were a few teething problems, particularly with set times, but then it was their first major festival, so you have to cut them a bit of slack. From what we have seen of the preparation this year they have recognised where things didn't quite go right in '06 and are putting an awful lot of effort into ensuring this year is even better.

I did drink a lot of cider last year, so a lot of my memories are rather fuzzy (and apple-scented!), but from what I remember there was some music during the day. The 'headliners' played in the evenings, but that's fairly standard for a festival.

It's true - there were no roofs on the composting loos - It wasn't a major problem as the weather was great for most of the festy, but hopefully it's something they will look at addressing this year.

Regarding the Ts&Cs - I can't make official comment because we run the forum and aren't responsible for Festival policy, but I read that statement as meaning that if you are a parent and your child is drunk you will be evicted... not that YOU can't have a beer/cider (although obviously if you are minding kids it probably isn't a good idea to get plastered!).

Hopefully one of the sunrise team will pop by soon and give you a proper answer, but I hope that I have been of some help.

Very Happy

PS: Come to Sunrise!
Wink

me me me ...... I'm lovely too .... honest sweetheart

I was there last year and I agree with Chooks & Tony. There were a few teething troubles but it was a really great festy. It was a bit like the Greenfields area of Glastonbury in that there were dozens of small stages featuring obscure bands that could fill your day with nice surprises and chance discoveries. And because of the 24h music license, the clubbing went on until the daytime acts started. THe only problem was finding the discipline to pace oneself Tired

I've never been to BD but I can't recommend Sunrise enough - and it might be even better this year hyper

Iv been to BDays 2 times now and loved it.....and i can see why you like it with kids coz they have a great kids area and its a real old school hippy family type festival.....but i have been assured by those at Sunrise last year that it is also a good for kids one........not being much help am i!!?.....Sunrise is cheaper so that means more money for food drink and shopping.......and cant kids sleep thru anything?.....festivals are noisy no matter what time of the day or night!.......and as for the eviction over alcohol thing.....i dunno but i reckon festy organisers may have to put that type of shit on the adverts and stuff just to pacify official bodies......
Hope you chose Sunrise coz that is my choice anyway......and im lovely too!!.......and i feel that you may be just like us!!
sweetheart

I have to say last year was Magical.
OK it had its Teething problems as all festivals do.
But ..............One top festival, and i think it will become a regular one for your diary.
There was music during the day (ID Spiral / Bimble Inn)........And they were both eclectic and for me Inspired with the way they chose sets and artists to perform.(Thanks Barklay).
I have asked my eldest son (19) to attend this year because it was that GOOD.
Even though he is in a few bands, and a very talented base player, he has never done a festie.
And i thought Sunrise would be ideal, due to the fantastic people/ friendly atmosphere and great mix of music.

...an me Wink

Welcome to Festival Weather Nicnak. I'm a Glasto veteran and I really loved this festival coz it's reminded me so much of Greenfields. I would recommend it to anyone - in fact I have - at least 4 or 5 of my buddies are coming this year. Like Bruce, I loved all the 24 hr stuff, especially the random drumming. People were so friendly, and yes lots of them post on here, so you will no doubt make new friends who you can hook up with when you arrive. I've never been to BD, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed by the bigger, better and more friendly Sunrise Festival 2007.

Its so good to see such affection for Sunrise amongst everybody. Uplifting.

I am not sure the official answers can give much more clarity than that which has been written here already.

To confirm, the note in the t and c's is to be read as ANY PARENT whose minor is caught drinking could be liable for eviction.

Its not an unusual condition.

What I would like to make clear is that whilst entertainment is 24hrs to a limited degree, none of the main stages run all the time and there is quiet family camping at the far end of the site, well away from sources of disturbance. The main stage is runnng from 6pm-2am on Friday and Saturday and 3pm-Midnight on the Sunday. Lots of stages have music through the days - Bimble Inn, Second Stage, Dance Stage, ID Spiral, EartHeart and others. The idea is that there is something for everyone.

The toilets have become pretty renowned for their raw nature, but this year they are completely revamped and, unfortunately, we are forced to have some portaloos (chemical-free varieties though) in the arena to complement the range of beautiful compost loos. We are even running a national design competition currently!

On the point of the choice of music, I have never wandered through any event and seen SO many little musical scenes happening. It was for me (as a musician and organiser of the event) an absolute joy! We had a little baby (11 days old at the time) and seeing dreadzone was too tough for us too, and i think in the end we had to leave (though they did then release the whole gig live on CD anyway!!)

However, one beauty of such a pervasive musical presence generally around the site is, that you can discover some true gems dotted in the strangest of places and that adds a real element of intimacy that you wouldn't normally enjoy at a 'big stage, big acts' type fezzi.

Whilst, obviously, people always veer towards 'the headlining' acts, Sunrise does have the ability to truly entertain away from the main stage, whatever your tastes might be.

So, if in doubt with timings and kiddies, I can honestly say that I think Sunrise will still please and surprise in equal amounts, and your music hunger will definitely be satiated.

Love,
torbz
