Anti virus

Anti virus

PostAuthor: ZeeBoo » Tue Jul 27, 2010 6:03 am

I have just bought this https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=870# and need to get the anti virus sorted asap so any recommendations?

It comes with win 7 home so I'm wondering if I should upgrade to w7 pro/ultimate or back track to xp64 as the programs I want to use are 64 bit so I want to make the most of the 8gb ram.

I am also later on be looking at hackingtoshing it as I saw somewhere that it's possible so is it hard to do for a not so uber geek?

Stick microsoft security essentials free av on whilst you think about buying an av. I replaced the free AVG with that and it works well without eating resources.

 we dumped AV at work in favour of MSE, it has a small footprint, is clean and does the job very well.

At work - quick reply-

Id go for win7 pro 64 bit, but it depends what you want to do with it really

You may find some drivers dont work, printers seem to be the biggest bane.

Most 32 bit programs "should" work, but it does depend how they are written. 32bit programs will only use about 3.2G of memory, whatever is installed ie 8G

Going to be running Revit, Autocad, 3D Studio max (possibly).

Well I was going to upgrade to Pro but the price is rediculous $400 direct from microshaft!!!! It's amazing how much people in Australia are shafted because they have a smaller population!
Anyway may have found an upgrade for $107 but just found Win 7 Ult for $150 for the full version.... is it worth the extra $50???

You can never go wrong running a good software firewall with optional included antispyware. All free.
I've been running Comodo alongside AVG for a couple of years. Lightweight, but hefty.
