Cool Atomic Drop Interview

When you play at a festival do you tend to stay & party or shoot off to
the next gig?

As a general rule and due to our nature we usually stay at the
events/gigs that we play at, we like to immerse and be a part of the gig,
not just rock up, play then leave. Connecting with the promoters and party
people is as important as the gig we feel .... especially if its a good
event - we work hard and play harder !!!

With big names like the Glade canceling what do you think is in-store
for the UK electronic music festival scene?

Firstly, Glade festivals cancelation is an absolute blow to to the
scene... its the number 1 dance music festival in uk and i sincerely hope
they can pull it off next year... so full power to that. Where i see things
going are with smaller events / festivals springing up...
smaller capacity gatherings. It is very difficult to say where the
electronic music festival scene is going to go with a blow like this
happening.... its either smaller, which is obviously then harder to cover
basic costs, or bigger (like glade - and we know what happened
there) or illegal! - which is also impossible as proved over time - when
organizations/promoters/events get to a certain size and following..... it
is more and more difficult to pull of a successful event on all levels.....
so well done to you waveform... you are pulling it off.. keep up the good
work!!

You play all over the world so do you think there are there any main
differences between the UK & worldwide festivals?

The main differences are you usually get paid and get looked after more
outside the uk, the weather is usually more predictable and warmer !!!
Festivals outside uk often make more of a feature with the alternative dance
cultures like electro, mimimal techno, dubstep, where as in the uk these
genres are mostly secondary or peripheral stages. Even european festivals
feel different to Worldwide and UK festivals... one thing is though for sure
- you can travel the world to festivals and events but you really cant beat
a proper good UK festitval ......... Good people, Good vibes, Good
Music........
Hopefully Good weather!

Who would be your dream "plus one" to bring along to Waveform?

Obviously apart from our dream girlfirends that will be there with
us...... our dream plus ones are as follows!
James dream plus one is Keith Moon
Ken's dream plus one is Slash

What is your preferred playing medium? Vinyl, CD, MP3?

When we do our Atomic Drop drop live set we use a Macbook pro, Abbleton
(coming out of 4 channels with Keny Keys on FX and sampling), Novation SL
MK2 Midi controller, Talk Box, Pioneer djm800 (with James Anthony on the
final mix and master FX!). If we do a rare Atomic Drop DJ set it will be
James spinning from Cd's one of his legendary ripping Electro Filth sets!

What's hot in your record box right now?

Miles Dyson as always (esp Operator, feat Blake Lewis - Miles Dyson
Dub), Dirty Loud, Udachi, Jack Beats, Schroff (new electro house project
from producer of Mood Deluxe and NSE), Markomen, Lazy Rich, Neurodriver, Far
Too Loud

What does your ideal rider contain?

Ideally, good hearted promoters doing pioneering projects with good
intentions who know how to look after their artists and the people working
with them....... > > > as for the rider!! > > >

Can you tell us your best festival experience

Our best festival experience is a close battle of either our gig at the
Glade Festival summer 2009 or last new years eve playing at Universo
Paralello in Brazil. They were both equally as epic in their own way - at
Glade we had the amazing opportunity to play on both the main stage and also
headlined the Arcadia Stage on the Friday night. Playing on that stage was an unbelievably epic experience and as for Brazil last new years eve, well.... We were given the headline
slot of 2 am new years morning playing after Khainz and there was somewhere between 8 - 10,000 people having it on a tropical beach after just entering a new year ... 2010 ..... after much thought and reflection we have to say that our Universo Parallelo 10 year anniversary
NYE was our best festival experience so far .... x
